Demeter Sings to Hekate: Dark Moon

She is lost to me now.

She has fled to your glittering realm.

Though you are my shade,

I cannot take your erotic place in her embrace.

It would not be right!

She was one with me in my womb

and in the mirror unity of sisterhood;

and we will be one in the fleeting reunion of return.

Now I must hold the light for her, the place of returning.

You who hold all things

safe in your consuming cauldron of transformation,

I do not ask you to protect her.

It is her destiny to become you

as it is her destiny to become me,

and to unite me and you

with her refreshing rainbow bridge of change.

Though we are one, you and I,

we never embrace except in embracing her.

This I know, and yet my grief and fear consume me.

They fuel the longing

with which I call and call to lead her home!
