Demeter Sings to Persephone: Growing Moon
I was alone, and I conceived you, daughter,
and I knew joy, delight and friendship.
But out of endless sunshine, flowers and laughter,
the roots of your heart grew deep,
and you heard the endless sighs of the underworld:
the inner, dark side of all.
You smelled the inevitability of decay, and imagined death.
So you left my realm of life abundant,
and falling, found your own mysterious realm.
Queen of souls, you comforted, healed, gave hope.
You prepared the secret beginnings of renewal;
and you forgot all life, so sweet was endless night.
But I, in barren grief and rage,
searched in the winter of my heart;
and you heard the cry of me, your mother,
needing comfort, needing healing, needing hope.
You left the timeless land of un-being, and you returned to find
that you experience the renewal you have prepared.
Transformed, you become the Mother.
I know, because this journey was once mine!
Yes, there is reunion’s joy,
but how quickly reunion becomes union:
in perfect oneness, you will find yourself alone.
Shake with knowing laughter conceiving your daughter!
Hold her closer knowing how brief the dance
of the bubble of bliss must be!
